Why flats keep happening around Buda

The I-35 corridor is busy with trucks, and road crews are always widening or patching somewhere nearby. Metal scraps, screws and chunks of rock from the shoulders find their way into tires. On FM 967 and FM 1626, ragged pavement edges and gravel beside the road add to the risk.

Hill Country limestone is hard on rubber too, especially if a tire is thin.

Getting off the interstate

If a tire blows on I-35 through Buda, hold the wheel firmly, let the car coast down and steer for the nearest exit or frontage road. A driveway or store lot beats the left shoulder every time. Don't change a tire in a live lane, and don't climb out into traffic.

Once you're stopped, hazards on and wait for us from inside the car if the shoulder is all you could reach.
